Afghanistan: WHO Health Emergency Appeal 2026
29 January 2026
| Donor alert
Overview
Decades of conflict, displacement and economic collapse have left Afghanistan’s health system fragile and under severe strain. In 2026, an estimated 14.4 million people will need health assistance as funding cuts, disease outbreaks, food insecurity and climate shocks converge. Large-scale returns from neighbouring countries continue to overwhelm health facilities, particularly in border areas. WHO is working to sustain life-saving health services, strengthen outbreak preparedness and protect access to care for women, children and the most vulnerable.
